Ever wonder what’s the difference between your normal fish&chips in restaurants and the AUTHENTIC BRITISH F&C? Here’s where you find out!
Located at the busy street of TANJONG KATONG where bustling cafes and shop houses such as A Pinch Of Salt, Bruno Pizza etc… you can definitely locate this shop with its eye-catching white facade and loads of ENGLAND flags! (as you can see below)

As the shop name suggest, they are specialized in battered fish & chips with a choice of 7 kinds of fishes namely, Cod, Haddock and the all time favourite Dory! For those who hates fish, not to worry because they serve chicken cutlets and sausages too, so you do not have to worry if your lunch/dinner companions are big-time fish & chips lovers and you need to crack your head to decide where to eat! THIS IS definitely an option for you!

The prices differ by the type fish you choose (refer to first picture), and if you’re not sure which fish to try, just go for the cod and dory (cause it definitely won’t go wrong). And yes, that’s what happen to us… we chose cod and dory fish to play safe since we are not big fish eaters which cost S$17 and S$10 respectively.

If you take a closer look at the menu, you’ll notice that they have gravy and curry sauce… since when do we have gravy and curry sauce for fish & chips? And they do not have the usual tar-tar sauce on the table! However, no harm trying something new here right?! So we took the risk in trying out the gravy which cost S$2 (serve in a cup) with our fish & chips!

Here’s our fishes wrapped up with love. :) Creative serving method and it saves a lot of effort for the staffs!

Here’s the gravy (beef stew) and a sneak peek of me!

Here’s COD & CHIPS and DORY & CHIPS respectively! Freshly battered and fried to golden perfection! Smells awesome and the homemade fries were so tasty! Actually we couldn’t tell the difference between the fishes if it wasn’t stated on the wrappers because they both looked batter-ly similar!
After tasting the fishes, it actually tasted different! The cod fish was more flaky and thicker in texture, but the dory fish was more juicy and smoother as though it dissolves in your mouth! However, I prefer the cod fish as it gives you the satisfaction as you eat, the thick and succulent texture makes you feel so filling!
As for the gravy, something new and its definitely a good try as it actually goes well with the fish (and also the fries)! Besides having the usual tar-tar sauce, why not try something healthier such as the beef stew gravy and it enhances the taste of the fish minus the oily batter!

A random picture! A SATISFIED CUSTOMER.

On the other hand, the battered Mars Bar (S$5) was not as good as what we thought. The batter was actually the same as the battered fishes and its presentation and portion wasn’t really worth S$5… We’ve tried and now you know!
Overall, the fish & chips were awesome as you can choose from the many fish type and the gravy was definitely something different and you can’t find it anywhere. Other than the similar looking battered fishes (and mars bar), the fish & chips served here are more ‘british’ style with its ready-to-go wrappers and simple one batter but different fish concept as compared to Fisherios @ Takashimaya, where they serve breaded and battered fishes.
SMITHS is an awesome place for some friend catching-up session, office lunch and also family dining in the east. I’ll definitely come back for more fishes!
